AMD rolls out new version of Phenom II processor

Global chip maker Advanced Micro Device (AMD) has hit the market back with the latest version of its Phenom II processor, 3.4-GHz Phenom II X4 965 CPU, which is claimed to be the fastest CPU that the company has brought to the market.

But the best news for the customers is that it will be available at the same price as its previous version 3.2-GHz Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition processor

Both top-in-line CPUs have almost same features, like both have compatibility with DDR2 and DDR3 memory types , have the same 8MB cache memory and the same unlocked multiplier (X16) that enables them to be overclocked.

Moreover, it is reported that AMD has enhanced the new CPU's Thermal Design Power (TDP) to 140 watts for making it compatible on an AM2+ system.

Test systems have been able to boost the performance of new processor upto 4.6 GHz using a third party air cooling. AMD have also mentioned that the newer chip can go beyond its 955-edition brother on performance scale. For the general user, however, the increase in 0.2 GHz over 955 edition will remain imperceptible.
